Kung Fury - A must watch movie!

Wife was out with her co-worker's last night for drinks and celebrating a birthday and I was home alone with the dog and looking for something to entertain me but nothing overly complex to watch. Then I found this sleeper of a movie.

Let me first say this isn't a fantastic movie, it is the typical "B" mod movie. It's bad, but in a good way bad that is entertaining and short (30 mins).

What gripped me is the early on opening of a cop car being flipped into the air by a skateboard and then blown apart by small arms fire by some thugs. Then a video game turns into a killing machine shooting everything around it and flipping people off. At least until the hero shows up.

I won't spoil the plot but let's just say it just has a crazy mix of cool cars, David Hasselhoff jokes, 80's technology nostalgia with Hitler calling himself the "Kung Fuhrer" and backing up this bad ass martial arts time traveling cop is Triceratops Cop, the Norse God Thor, a Valkyrie riding a T-Tex, a Feral chick with a mini-gun and wolf alongside a Hacker....yea....I don't think they missed too much! Well maybe zombies...

Watch it with a grain of salt and for a laugh.

I found it on Netflix...but also apparently a site has an "touch game" for Kung Fury and has the full 30 min movie on the site. Enjoy!

Marvel's Dead Pool Movie - *****

No  spoilers here! I don't do crap like that.

Great movie, perhaps the best ever Marvel movie to date. The one liner quips by Dead Pool was a scream and the pacing was great, not a boring moment in it.

My wife that isn't a comic book fan actually went when we first met to go see Daredevil for Valentine's weekend, well we all know that movie sucked. Of late she half watches the Flash and the Arrow with of late I was able to get her to watch AKA Jessica Jones and Daredevil, she is excited already for season 2 of Daredevil, while she has never read a comic book her only favorite movie to date was the Punisher that was comic book based.

Oh, I will give you one hint - stay for the credits....Easter Egg!

Movie Thoughts: Mad Max - Fury Road

Image result for mad max fury road

So, my friend Chris and I watched this Thursday night and I have to say meh, I am not sure why people are all hyped about this movie. It was ok, but it was the same gags over and over, the plot was very weak, the acting wasn't even that great....I just expected more from Frank Miller, I have read his comics, graphic novels and books as well as his movies and wow, he must be slipping in his old age.

If you have not went to see it, save it for a matinee, DVD rental from Red Box or a discount movie theatre. I think that is what is is really worth, the movie did have lots of eye candy with crazy vehicles and situations, it just went over the top in repeating the same thing. Yea, Road Warrior was the same way but there were way points and plot pacing that was much better than this go round. I hope for better things with the next two movies.

Fantastic Four Fail? You make the call.

I had high hopes for this reboot until I watched it. Now all I can say is Fantastic Failure!

Serious....the promo is weak....they plug the last X-men movie and special effects to carry this movie it seems.

Plus again the movie industry goes out to change characters instead of sticking to cannon instead change Johnny Storm making him another race instead of the blonde punk kid we know and love. *sigh* Mind you I am not a racist guy, but they should have stuck to what was done and not trying to rewrite what was already good and decent. Why they do these stupid choices it just really makes me want to just give up on the intelligence of the movie industry.

I know most people are like, yea they did this to Nick Fury and did a quick race change to allow Samuel Jackson the role.....again a bad choice to change something for a quick buck or hype....

Would people be upset if say they did a Black Panther movie with a white actor? Power Fist as as someone of Asian origin instead?  Perhaps make Thor female with a French accent?

How much is going too far from what is established and works?

The prior movies were not the best, but they tried and that won my respect despite the suck factor. This already has my disdain and I frankly will no go watch this movie and encourage anyone else to not give the movie industry any profit, wait for it to go to Redbox and rent it.....serious I don't think it would be worth more than this to watch.

What do you think?

WW2 Movie Review: The Fallen

The Fallen has been sitting in my queue for some time on Hulu for various WW2 movies and documentaries to watch when I get a moment...hahhahaha

The Fallen is Ari Taub's gritty WW2 drama, set after the tide had turned on the Axis powers in 1944, chronicles the conflict through the eyes of an ill-fated unit of German soldiers, their disheveled Italian allies, and an American supply group.

I don't care to spoil much about the movie but I wanted to give my thoughts on it. First, this is a drama, there is combat and action but the focus is more on what went on during the war, the psychology and perceptions at that time. I found the Italian resistance at odds with the Italian army to be very interesting on how two types of people formed from the same people in a county split by ideals. The Germans also were not portrayed as monsters but soldiers fighting as war as ordered and the mixing of the Germans and Italians leads to many comical scenes that break up the dark points of the movie. The American supply group was also interesting to see how the US troops treated civilians and the challenges they had. Overall, it was a great movie....the only thing is you have to read translations unless you speak Italian, German and English, then your good....

Well worth a watch!

Preview....

Movie Review: Saints and Soldiers

Bored last night, so I selected a random war movie and got a nice treat...I do advise to turn on the caption (like I did) to be able to understand what they were saying, often things was a bit quiet and hard to hear which is my only complaint. I think that was part of the "art" of the movie.

The plot is pretty simple, 4 Airborne POWs managed to avoid getting killed when they get captured and things go wrong. They managed to rescue a downed British pilot that has intel that must get back to command. A medic, sarge, sniper and grunt escort the downed British flyboy to safety. There is a small tone of religion to the movie as the sniper is a Mormon and the medic an atheist that has an interesting character development in the movie.  It's not a high action movie, but rather several quiet scenes with a few action/combat elements mixed in.

Post Apoc Theatre: Hell

Watched this while I was painting last night. It is the usual Post Apocalyptic movie in theme. I am not big on tipping off about the movie and would rather let someone draw their own opinions and enjoyment here is the basics....two sisters are traveling with another guy when they run into another survivor...they are of course in Europe and they are speaking German in the flick (the sub-titles was not bad) and had a fairly well paced plot that put them on a journey to find a source of water in the mountains after the Earth has turned into a living hell where the sun is either closer to the Earth or we are missing a great deal of our ozone layer causing mass droughts and UV burns to those exposed for too long. They really don't explain what happened much and really it wasn't key to the story, but rather about the two sister's after one is kidnapped by some bandits and the story takes a few weird twists and turns. This isn't Mad Max or anything, but a more realistic look at the human side of how humanity could become in a situation like this. You see each character change and grow slightly as it explores the question of humanity in a literal hell on Earth situation.

If you like this kind of thing, then you will enjoy it.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (A Movie Review)

Let me just start off saying, you have to watch this movie with a sense of humor, a love of super heroes and you can deal with musicals....yes, because this move is all of the above. Wikipedia refers to it as a  tragicomedy (I was unaware there was such a word until I saw this) and well it is a good summary of this movie.

I don't want to say much of the plot as I don't want to ruin it and would rather those interested to have the experience....

The most amazing part of this movie is the cast...

Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, a rising super villain that wants to join the Evil League of Evil and hosts his own blog telling his story to his audience.

Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer, better known as the Captain from Serenity among other things. He plays the shallow, ego driven super hero that is the nemesis of Dr. Horrible.

Felicia Day as Penny the girl between the hero and villain...she is better known to me as being on the Guild among other things including Eureka, she is one of those actresses that when you see her you know her but she does not appear in things that are the common movie.

What is most interesting is this movie is done in three acts of about 14 minutes each, so it is not a long movie and from a film point of view was very well done. It took a moment to get used to the concept but once I got into it I was rooting for the villain to win out!

Oddly, I watched this on Netflix, but Youtube has it free!

Lone Ranger Rides Again! And Again! And Again!

Well, in the tradition of remakes, here we go again! Still, looks like a fresh twist on an old concept and Johnny Depp as Tonto is a scream! I think I had a Disneygasam when I watched this!

Just two posts away from the contest, I have four supporters for the old west theme! I think it should be a blast!
