Birthday gifts to me!

Well, good ole Mom came through for me this year again, 43 and a kid at heart she sent me birthday cash to go wild......

My wife let me buy the Black Mask gang as a LGS about 2 hours away is getting into Batman, I've had my eye o this game, while not a huge Batman fan, I do love the bad guys and now that the Arrow and Watchmen have stepped into the lineup I am more interested. The rules seem improved and the game is growing. The models are a love/hate. It was pure luck that I found these on sale at dirt cheap prices making my entry into Batman somewhat cheap.

Deadshot my favorite DC baddie. Suicide Squad was my favorite comic!

Black Mask Thugs found these boys at a nice 50% off.

Mr Freeze

Reaper Catus Joe to go with my Ape gang for Judge Dredd. A cheap figure but I always wanted him.

Side by side to some Judge Dredd

I also was suckered into a deal with the Soviet Army, My Finnish army was getting lonely!

Japanese Jeep with MG....another will appear in my army soon!

I was also tempted by a sweet deal on 4Ground furniture and opted to test drive 10 packs.

Love my mom, so the next step is to start selling more 40k and clear out my Fantasy Undead. I have a pending buy to get some Pulp City that has been on hold and is my next expenditure to get then move on with some more scenery I hope!

Suncoast Skirmishers Games Day: A double Bolt Action Outing!

I hosted two Bolt Action events at this past Suncoast Skirmishers Games Day this August. My friend and I loaded up the car and zipped down to enjoy an afternoon of Bolt Action.....

The event went well, the attendance was lacking from last year that was a full house. This year the building was about half full this time around and the gaming options was a bit thinner than normal. We still managed to pull together enough players despite this and had a blast. I did have a great number of people cancel out over the past few weeks, wedding plans, jury duty (Federal), packing their house to move among other setbacks by various players. A bit of a disappointment but one can only do what you can do.

The first game was the Germans defending an airfield against a British invasion to capture a plane with experimental radio equipment. Game of course went to the British, the Germans did a great job but was spread out a bit too much and held back a bit too long to be able to keep the plane safe.

The second game saw German Armor against British Armor with Soviets in tow....again the British pulled out a win with the game ending with them pinning the hell out of the sole survivor the Tiger I!

You want pictures? Sure!

The German Side

Those British at it again!

The table...a German Airfield with a plane that must be captured by the British that contains experimental radio equipment in it .

A new face to Bolt Action! Welcome aboard!

AEC creeps out on the table....

Hey is that a Tiger I! Oh shit!

Werebeilwind what?

British tanks plows the walls down...

A Soviet Captured Panzer III M makes for the road...

British armor flanks along the edge...

Tiger and 222 team up!

222 advances..

Panzer III M dies to the Panzer IV G

Tiger I on the prowl!

Bolt Action - Army Group North KV-2

I was able to purchase a KV-2 as Vincent was still working out the molds for final production since he opted to remaster them. I went online and I could see the changes he did and they are just A+!

The KV-2 will be used as a captured tank for my German forces. I did some research to ensure this was something reasonable before adding it to my forces as a captured tank. What I liked about this tank was the fact it was a a heavy howitzer in a heavy tank with a flamethrower option and a rear mounted MMG...sure expensive for 300 points base for a regular tank but well worth it IMO.

The KV-2 what a beast!

KV-2 next to a Die Waffenkammer Panzer IV G

KV-2 nex to a Warlord Puma

Some bonus scenery Vincent sent to help out at the tournament. I had to putty some of the air bubbles from the mold.

Woodland emplacements....very nice!

If you have never ordered from Army Group North, let me simply say give Vincent the buisness! His molds are of very good quality and I had no issues with the model itself or the assembly. The rungs on the tank was a bit of work as I drilled out the holes to make it easier to attach them but otherwise the kit was a snap to assemble and a must for any German player looking for a cool captured tank or a Soviet player wanting to blow up buildings and units in a single shot!

Bolt Action Sunday Aftermath

Well, we had our second gathering of Bolt Action for the area with some growth to the players including a new US and Japanese player. Sadly the Japanese player's order did not make it so he has to wait until next month before he can scream BANZI! Still, we had two German players including myself and a Soviet and another American player in the mix. We had a few no shows but that happens. What is the most important thing is we are growing slowly and steady each month...

On with the games!

Well, we built one table quickly with some rock/tree scenery and another table with some 4ground buildings that Mike brought along, we also found some roads, a river, some Hirst Arts bridges and building to go alongside the graveyard that Mike had with him also, it was a class A sharp table to want to play on!

First parings were Soviets vs. Germans and US vs. Germans. I won the dice off and was up against the American player on the city table. We both had 750 point armies...

US:
Tank (had a Howitzer on it)
2nd Lt with assistant
Air spotter and two assistants
Sniper Team
2 squads with BARs and rifles with a Tommy gun on the NCO.
Bazooka Team!

I had (from memory)
Puma
2 Squads of 6 with Assault Rifles
Engineer squad with flame thrower, 3 SMGs and 1 rifle
Air Spotter
2nd Lt with Assistant with Assault Rifles
Heavy Artillery

We rolled and got "Hold until Relieved" well I put the Artillery on the bridge in the center with a squad; everything was to be in on first turn. He deploys the HQ and squad in the graveyard, another squad by the Tank opposite by the other bridge, the tower held his sniper and spotter....

Well, the dice was against me from the start and he was rolling like a god, I told him to go buy a lottery ticket and I get 10% of the earnings with his luck! Hey worth a shot! Some of the worst stuff was rolling a 1 on the Air Strike I called in on his tank and he place it on my Puma, in theory when the plan token was set I should have been able to run the Puma behind the building to avoid LOS of the plane and avoided death, still because we could not get proof this was a correct the air strike killed my tank, the first air strike for him wiped my artillery and the second just punished me....there was little left by the end of the game but my Engineer squad and officers....in the end the officer managed to contest the bridge by hiding on the far side and avoiding being shot by most guns.

Americans push for the bridge.

The brave officer and his assistant holding the bridge at all costs!

The second game we paired up the American and Soviets against the FJ and Heer German Armies....we rolled the kill point game and we setup running full tilt into this game. It was cat and mouse all the way to the end where we rolled to play another turn 7 where the squeaked out two other bonus points to win the game with last minute kills.

There was a lesson learned here after asking on the Warlord boards that you CAN split your gun crews up and send only one, two, etc...over to the gun instead of the entire team. We had a long debate about this that we ceded to the Allied players that was dead wrong per Rick Priestly. Oh well....

The humor of the game was lobbing the 150mm shell indirect at a building; I had hoped to kill the sniper inside. Instead it missed his floor and hit the bottom floor killing the US HQ! HAHAHHAH one more hit (rolled an 11) and would have had both!

First turn.

First turn again...

Soviets and Americans sneak in....

Das Americans called in a German plane by mistake! *DAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA*

Take cover, give them nothing!

Both games was a blast, yet fustrating due to some bad dice and some rules issues that are much clearer now! Looking forward to next month!
