Robotech Tactics: Breetai Special Edition Mini

Got a few packages in the mail, one included the Breetai I purchased from Palladium since I was an investor in the Kickstarter, I wished I could have ordered more.

Looking forward to getting him painted up with the other models and on the table.

Robotech Factory Update 1!

Well, been working slowly on a few items from my Robotech Tactics Kickstarter that arrived on Veteran's day.

So far, 12 Battle Pods, 1 Officer Pod, 1 Scout Pod and 2 Spartans are done so far. I went an extra step inspired by some others on Robotech Facebook page that allowed me to tackle adding magnets to my minis to expand my weapon options.

Also see the images below on how I added the magnets to the Spartans to expand the weapon options.

The weapon pods, clip the nub off and drill out the hole. I have a few bits that are the same size at the magnet that makes a perfect snug fit (at some times, no glue is needed).

Drill out of the side.

First magnet in the torso, the second now waits for the arm.

The weapon pod with a magnet. I used some plastic glue to fill in the crack from adding the extra magnet taking up space.

Finished Spartans with both weapon options.

Missile Pods. One open and one closed.

The magnets I used. This size works well for many projects.

Shot of the Zentradi horde so far.

Still on the fence about this pod. I wanted to capture movement but more forward instead of a leg behind running as typical in most poses.

Another one I tried to get a different feel of movement and action.

Officer pod

Scout Pod.

What do you think? Feedback welcome!

Hobby Rundown

Well, it is the end of the month and looking into the next few months of things I want to do/get done...

Ordering:
1) Order some Old West MDF buildings and build some from scratch.

2) Order some extra French and German WW2 goodness, mostly just filler items like Calvary (German and French), French Resistance, some odd and end vehicles to round out my forces.

3) Order the Dropzone Commander city set to get ready for Robotech to arrive.

4) Order some Vallejio airbrush paint and some of the new Badger Miniture paint.

5) Order the Pegasus Bridge that Warlord is going to put out...ouch this is going to be EXPENSIVE!
(see my prior post)

Just ordered:
1) Some paint, the French/Allied book for Bolt Action, the P-16 French Armored car and some other goodies for a friend of mine.

2) Placed another order prior with some French stuff to bolster my army and the new German Pioneers with the new gas masks.

Working on:
1) Judge Dredd Ape Gang: Got just about everything, or at least enough for a good start. I primered and started to paint some of the figures.

Down the center there is a bunch of the Apes for my gang.

Close up of some WIP

2) Invasion of Normandy set for Bolt Action: This is my SARGE demo kit so I need to get it up and done within the next few weeks to start doing some demos. Maybe if I do enough demos I can build up credit to pay for for the Bridge set. I did manage to airbrush some green onto the Americans to get them started. I have since gone back touched up the green, added some skin tones and started to put the Field Grey on the Germans.

Americans, just have some basic green (airbrushed, then brush touch up) and some skin tones.

Germans, painting the field grey on the jackets.

3) Bolt Action: With the French and my German vehicles just slowly being painted. The Alpine Chaussers while I waiting for my paints (and to order a few more) are the only French unit I am working with as I have most of the colors for this one. There isn't anything else left German wise until the Pioneers arrive save for two medium machine gun teams.

Alpine Chaussers WIP

4) Old West: I have about 20ish figs left to finish painting, just finished 4 the other night and hope to snap some images to post up later. Each of the others are in various stages of being completed.

Teaser of the figs I am almost finished with.

A fistful of lead! Or whatever metal that is used now!

5) Supersystem 3: Started to sort a huge lot of Clix and grabbed a few other figures I wanted from the Battlezone and have since started to repaint some of them. Images up soon!

Random shot of one lot I am working on....

Head swap on Destiny with a Crossover head.

Another head swap with Magneto as he choice.

6) Learn to use my new airbrush that I got off Ebay. For $30 it isn't a half bad purchase and it is giving me some valuable experience.

Not bad, gravity fed, double action, adjustable pressure in the rear. I got extra needles and a nylon hose among other items. My only complaint was that there was a crack in the case from poor packing by the seller.

Tiger I that I was toying with....

The stripes are very light and hard to see here due to a crappy camera and lights.

Waiting on Kickstarters:
1) Word has it that the Crossover 2 miniature rewards should be in soon and will be ready to ship! Looking forward to seeing the latest from Rusti!

2) Robotech pledge manager closes next week on Tuesday due to the holiday weekend. I already pledged some extra money for a MAC II and some Armored Veritechs to go with my Showdown pledge which is an insane amount of models. They claim they claim to deploy earlier in Oct/ Nov before Xmas but I am not very hopeful. They just emailed us today and said they are pushing it BACK AGAIN to September 10th because some people can't make up their minds and others wanted to wait for another pay check o grab extra stuff. This KS was finished in MAY! You have had JUNE-JULY-AUG to SAVE UP! Instead people are being stupid and Palladium is being a dumbass and allowing this. Guess what, congrats dimwits for being unable to make up your mind you just DELAYED US MORE! Really, I am going out of town this weekend, I had my extra pledges planned out and I asked to be already charged and in the clear before we left on vacation. Pure and simple, plan your shit out.....*sigh*

3) Guardian Chronicles: This is to me the real silver lining to all the Kickstarters. This just looks like a kick ass (no pun intended) board game with tons of minis I can use in Supersystem 3 as well. The game just appears to be stellar and the pledge manager is open right now but should be closing out soonish. With luck they will make the October deployment deadline and release the expansion stuff just a bit later....

Robotech Kickstarter: Backer choices ends on the 31st, choices to make....

Well, I am still sticking with the $260 Showdown deal as it is just a stupid amount of miniatures for the price. You just can't beat it!

This leads me to what to perhaps pick up, I know I can talk the wife into another $20, doubt more than that so hat would have to come out of my hobby funding of Ebay and Bartertown. Aug. 31st is the last day so I just need to figure out what I can scrape together to get a few last minute goodies.

This is going to be a first pick, just for the price and the fact the product is doubled up for the Kickstarter makes it a no brainer. It didn't make it into the backer rewards oddly while other weird choices did.

The VEF-1 has some rather unique abilities that could bolster their side and is appealing, still $30 for two unique mecha in 3 modes isn't bad, but I just wonder the value of the VEF-1 compared to other things. The 1D is just a mecha that can shoot more due to two pilots.

Ah, the beast and I am in love. Pushing $60 would be selling ice cream in hell at this point. Unless some good Ebay or Bartertown Sales kick in!

At first I was not going to consider this, now it has moved up into the running. The thing is a flying tank with more weapons. The only problem I can see is that is limited as to which units as a Glaug eldare can be added only to a unit that does not have a Glaug. Most Zentradi units do. Powerful and temping but just hard to find a good spot for it.

Love em! The only problem here is for a unit you need two boxes to get 12 and 12 to make full units! They can support other units but i feel at that point they limit what units they are attached to as that unit will have to be limited by the unit it is with. Again, I could sack everything and get two boxes and double up if i make some decent cash.

What do you think? $180 I could get everything, but i think that isn't going to  happen and i have to stick more to reason! Odds are I will go the Armored VT kit, then either the MAC (just because it is cool) or the Recon VEF-1 pack....otherwise unless I get more spare cash the Zentradi Infantry is out of the question.

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Well, the Robotech Kickstarter is over and now we wait for the pledge manager to roll out and the long 6+ wait till December (or later if delayed) for our large box of goodies to arrive. Overall, it went well I think they could have rolled over $2 Million if they had done some stuff right, I was worried at first they was screwing over the whole KS with some bad calls like adding a single fighter and reducing the fighter price to $15 was not huge and then they put some crap in there that who really cares about?

I hope to perhaps scrape some extra cash by the due date as I would love to slip in a Monster (MAC II), Armored VT and Zentradi Infantry into the mix.

Still here is what the Showdown is going to arrive with:

  • 2 Art Prints (one I may frame for my office, the other I will sell)
  • 2 Rule Books (so I have a loaner now)
  • 2 Templates
  • 40 counters (20 Zen and 20 RDF)
  • 80 Color Cards for units lamented
  • 24 UEDF Dice
  • 24 Zentradi Dice
  • 18 Veritechs (can be build as A, J, R or S)
  • 48 Battle Pods
  • 4 Officer Pods
  • 8 Destroids (Tomahawk, Defender or mix)
  • 4 Spartans and 4 Phlanx  Destroids
  • Command Upgrade for Destroids
  • 4 Recon Pods
  • 2 Rick Hunters (KS exclusive)
  • 2 Roy Fokkers (KS exclusive)
  • 2 Kyrons (KS exclusive)
  • 8 Artillery Pods
  • 6 Gnerl Fighters
  • 2 Miriya (KS exclusive)
  • 6 Male Power Armor
  • 6 Female Power Armor w bonus experimental gear.
  • 4 Decal sheets (two each faction)
  • 4 Super Veritechs
  • 4 Lancer II’s
  • 4 Recovery Pods
  • 4 Ghost Fighters

I may end up selling the KS exclusives later hard to say if they will be so many out there they won’t be worth something or not until later.

Now the long wait begins! I know there are two other players near me in Tampa, I think there is one or two over towards Orlando I plan to link up with once the sets roll out.

Time to fly!

Robotech Kickstarter: 13 Hours to go!

Just a mere 13 hours left until the Kickstarter ends! It has been a great ride and full of surprises despite some meh pledge goals between that I felt took the wind out of the sails. It passed what I expected to earn which is cool, I still think they could have made $2 million with the right approach but that is another story.

If you have not pledged, do so and join a great game and great looking minis!
If you have pledged, now is the time to strike to get the best deals!

My wife is very annoyed at me right now spending this money and feels we should spend that money to other things like debt. Still, life is short and it isn't all about being a slave to debt but enjoying life. I enjoy this hobby and I feel like I don't ask for much (at least from looking at other pledges and blogs). I am glad a co-worker was also pledging and made her feel better hearing I wasn't a crazy loon!

I went back and forth between Showdown and Battle Cry in the end while Showdown gives you a ton of models I want to get some of the upgrades instead to add variety more than just a load of minis and doubling up. So, I have went back to Battle Cry (the best deal IMO) and I have space to get a few upgrades to enjoy as well my MAC is back among other things!

Robotech Kickstarter heading in for a Landing! 3 Days to go!

By the time most of you read this it will be just a mere 2 days instead of 3 left on this  Kickstarter. It has been a long road and one with surprises. Ninja Division managed to pull out some stops and put some stuff out that drove the fans to push past the goals I thought they would hit but instead blew by them. I can say I was wrong and very pleased as it just means more stuff for the game. Not as many bolsters to the pledges as I would have liked but hey, I like free stuff!

Still, it isn't too late to up your pledge or jump in at the last minute. The Battle Cry and Showdown deals are huge in savings as you will NEVER get that price retail no matter what. I have decided to throw in for a Showdown to get the gobs of models in the deal at the expense of the MAC II or aka Monster mecha. I will just have to buy it later if I can. Maybe if I can scrape some cash I can boost my pledge after the KS to get it or just wait for it to hit the shelf when it goes retail. It really sucks to give it up but I am getting so much more to bolster the ranks that it would cancel out the other things I would have to worry about buying. Plus the extra rules allows me to give a loaner to a friend to read and lean to get people playing.

In any case PLEDGE NOW! PLEDGE OFTEN! PLEDGE ROBOTECH TACTICS!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rrpgt/robotech-rpg-tacticstm

Think this is a bad deal? HELL NO! Tons of Minis and more on the way!

Robotech Kickstarter - Heading in for a Landing! 10 Days to go!

Well we have only 10 days left on the Robotech Kickstarter! So, I figure I would drop my thoughts and predictions on this one as this is my second Kickstarter since the Reaper Bones.

The Good:
1)      It’s Robotech Miniatures. Nuff said. They are doing some excellent details on the figures and keeping very close to the cannon. Plus at 1/285 they are scaling them to a reasonable size that makes the detail shine.
2)      Price. Right now the Battle Cry pledge of $140 puts the figures about just a tad less than $2 a figure, cheaper if you go Showdown for $260.

The Bad:
1)      Too many Add-On options. This is going to limit the purchase power and hurt the Kickstarter because when you overwhelm someone with too much they will get less.
2)      Prices were not well thought out. For Example: 3 Fighters was priced at $20 and then dropped to $15 as a goal. Simply, the fighters should have been $15 off the bat and the upgrade should have been for something else to excite the backers. Many things seem higher than other items of similar value and impact in the game I am sure they will try to push a few price drops in but it will be too late. I would like to note that is the only price drop upgrade they have done also. Not very consistent.
3)      They won’t make $1 million in goal. I would predict about $700-800k will be the peak with 10 days left which is sad as if they had a better backer reward strategy it would have worked in their favor with more money.  Add on items should have been the big stuff like the MAC, Power Armors and Super Veritechs for example and then left the other stuff to slowly feed into the pledge deals and as an add on if people wanted more.
4)      They started the Backer Rewards late. That should have been something else right out of box as that would have IMO generated more interest.
5)      Decals at 3500 backers. Maybe, but unlikely. Not Transfers? I am not impressed. I am a transfer’s kind of guy.

Overall, it hasn’t been a bad Kickstarter, but could have been done better. If you are on the fence it is well worth the time to throw your lot in and grab the goodies! The $140 Battle Cry is a deal and even if you don’t get anything else, you will walk away happy with your purchase.

Feel free to drop your thoughts and opinions!

Robotech Tactics Kickstarter- Kicking Ass? Or Kicking your Ass?

Well, so far they have rolled $200k in two days, very impressive but I think the steam is going to falter soon from the KS and they are not going to be nowhere successful as Reaper was with theirs?

Why? Well, first I invested in the First Contact Set for $70, regular $80 but I lucked out and got the "early bird" called Boobytrap.....yea, that is a fitting name. I feel like a boob now! So far, two "free" upgrades have happened and well they are for the levels above the First Contact only. So, if you invested in the lowest of the sets, your screwed....they don't care you get reward for your loyalty.

I was really hyped about this project and VERY disappointed by this revaluation today. I have waited over 6 months for this to launch, looked at the minis with thumbs up approval, told friends via word of mouth, posted on Lead Adventure Forums, posted on two YAHOO groups to name a few things to spread the word about this cool Kickstarter. Now, it isn't so cool in my eyes. Why? Because I am not getting any of the FREE perks when they hit their goal, wow....you have to pay $140 to get that reward, That sucks as if I do upgrade to that I rob myself of the upgrades I would rather purchase with my very limited funds. I do mean very limited as my wife is trying to reduce our debt to nothing  if possible, so this means very limited free resources to blow on enjoyable things. All I can say is THANKS FOR SCREWING US! Yea, me and all the other backers at this level!

I understand also that molds cost money but really you have cleared $200k in two days, you have funding to make molds and could afford to give away some rewards and encourage people to want to invest more. Reaper Bones was all about that, on average they gave out two freebies and then a paid award most of the time then cycled back, here is is every other and only for the elite levels. I double this KS will make it to $4k which is a disappointment as the out of the box looked like they could roll over a million but I guess the idea of not rewarding people and encouraging investment was insane concept. Worked for Reaper....Ninja should borrow a page from their playbook.

My rant is over, I am happy about the project getting love....I am just not happy about how they screwed the little guy.

Robotech Tactics Kickstarter has Launched! The Invasion has begun!

Just a heads up, Robotech Tactics Kickstarter started today! They hit $70k in under a few hours and sold out of the early bird deals! The models look sweet! Last I looked they was screaming towards $100k (I bet within the next two hours that I get home and log on.)

I was lucky and got one of the $70 early bird deals!
Man, there is some amazing stuff in this set and the first add on is about to be unlocked and the next bonus goal for freebies are on the way!
Already looking at getting the Rick Hunter kit and perhaps a second Battlepod
(the officer one makes a Recon pod also it seems)
I also plan to use some magnets to interchange out the mecha options for the Destroids.

Robotech Miniatures Game

I have my eye on this as there is a looming Kickstarter for this in the near future.

Nice looking stuff! This takes me back to my childhood, I would love to get the game and some of the minis to play around with. I just don't know if there is another Robotech fan that is a miniature gamer also where I live that would play this.
