A Super Delivery Today!

I opened my mail box today to find not one but two packages that I ordered a few days ago loaded with super heroes and villains ready to take to the table!

My first order was from FRP games and was a load of Superfigs that they have at at great price. This is my third order with the company and each time they have done an excellent job at shipping the product from California to Florida.

Here is a pic of the loot!

Next up, I got my order from Crossover Miniatures, a new company just out of the gates thanks to Kickstarter and some loyal fans. If I  had heard about this earlier I would have also been in on the project. Again, their super power is best known as "super shipping" as they racked it out in the mail from Texas to me in record time.

Here is a pic of the swag!

Expect some model reviews soon of both Superfigs and Crossover Miniatures, I also may be playing around with magnets soon enough as well as some variant heads that could lead to some crazy fun!

A Gathering of Villains and Heroes: Supersystem 3

Superfigs Dr. Atlas from FRP Games Website

Dr. E-Vill from Crossover Miniatures

Blubbery Rand, Reaper

Well, the super count is up to 21 figures…to me is a nice collection to start off with. I know I will want to add and collect more later on. For now, this will do, I may go for Alpha Flight and Suicide Squad in the near future for a Marvel and DC based team for the hell of it and has a go at repainting some Clix figures.

These are what I have ordered:

Reaper:
Zenith: Best looking speedster I found.
Raptor: Amazing wings
Blubbery Rand: A cool looking stretcher.
Sandwoman: Need I say More?
The Harpy: Another cool set of wings
Blood Widow: A surprise here, didn’t like the green but liked the painted version.

From Crossover Miniatures:
Dr. E-Vil: Because you have to have a good super villan!
Everest: Big guy
Fury:  Flyer and blaster
Hoplite:  Armor/Cyborg
Ram Jam: Big Bad Guy
The Defender: Flyer/Blaster but could go for other things.
Whiskers: Has that thief look about her.

From Superfigs:
Particle: I love the 3 figures in different sizes.
Shield Maiden: Oddly I liked her looks.
Dr Atlas: Same here, expensive but 3 models showing the power.
Cat: A nice sculpt that could fit a few profiles.
Artemis: Best Archer I could find.
T-Bolt: Flyer and blaster or brute.
Killshot: Gadget guy, perfect for a character I have in mind.
Mindhawk: Another nice generic one that could find her way into any team.
Tarantula: Despite listed as a brawler the full body suit helps me make whatever I want.

There is a few more figs I would like to get from each company in the future, but I want to get a good start first before I see where this goes. I think it will be a blast once we get some players in the area interested. Not to mention, I need to get a cool board together to play on!

What was first the city or the Hero?

Well, I am about to order some extra miniatures which should give me about 30ish or so figures to work with to create various teams and to offer to players that do not have figures of their own to use. So, this leads up to the game board to build upon that fits my needs in being compact and easy to take with me.

After some thought I came up with a name!

Welcome to Sovereign City the heartland of the United States!

My vision for this 4x4 table is something along the lines of an H for the streets with a long street down the middle with two side streets wide. Part of me thought instead to paint a generic grey or black based board to make the city even more modular…still thinking over this aspect

Then I thought of what I would like to see on the table and how I could cut some corners to save some time making scenery. The main thing here I am looking at is trying to buy scenery that perhaps could be used in other games as well to get the most bang for my buck.

So here are the spots I would like to make…

Construction site: balsa wood, plasti card/rod/beams and a plastic toy construction set. My goal is to have plenty of stuff like pallets, rods, beams and such to use as weapons.

Junk Yard: piles of junk and old cars…Black Cat Bases has a junked Fridge, couch, chair and mattress, sprinkle a few toy cars and tires in and done! I plan to make each item loose so they can be tossed.

Park: Trees, hedges, park benches, fountain and statue…I figure I will put the trees on bases so they could be moved about, same for the fountain or at least the statue.

Plaza of 4 Businesses: From Demo’s Laser-Cut Designs. I am thinking a food spot, comic/gaming store, video arcade and a Pawn Shop/Mom and Pop Grocery/Tattoo  Shop

Random stuff:

Black Cat Bases: they have some Vending Machines and Bikes (bicycles) that look cool

Mega Miniatures: has a nice Sidewalk Scenery set that includes a bench, hydrants, trash cans, mail boxes, phone booths and a news paper box. They also have a pool table to go in the arcade with the video games.

Laser Cut has a set of 4 video game machines, a dumpster set, booths (for the sandwich shop)

Other ideas:

Graveyard: Useful in other games, I could make removable headstones to throw…

Diner; Plastiville perhaps?

Grocery Store: Plastiville?

Warehouse

As a closer here is something funny that I found online: What type of super hero would you be! Take the quiz and tell us what you ended up with!

Who did they say I was? Spider-man!

Super Heroes and Mini Gaming

Well, I found something that may be a blast to try also and fairly inexpensive…a skirmish style Super Heroes style miniature game. After doing some research I opted to go with my first e-book style rules in PDF format for Supersystems V3.

I blame Henry Badger’s contest that drew my interest to this type of genre and awakened the comic geek in me that was suppressed long ago. My friend Blake and I in high school (and early college) were huge gaming and comic fans. He went on to finally own his own comic store in Alabama which is a great thing to see. We had tons of notebooks filled with characters, sketches and teams for our comic line that never happened. Well, now I can relive some of my old glory days!

My choice for this system over Pulp City or other systems right now is the variety that it offers and was not disappointing. It has a complex system (many like Champions) to build your own heroes which I really wanted. Pulp City was locked to their own characters and fluff which was a disappointment, plus the fact their own figures are a little more expensive than Superfigs or Reaper’s. Plus, with a system where I could design things opens up a few avenues of using my figures from other lines like Strange Aeons, Gladiators and Old West with some creative work.

I plan to review the rules for Superfigs at a later time. That said, I am also going to look at some other figure lines out there:

Crossover Miniatures : New start up company, just about to open their online store. The unique thing about their miniatures is the ability to choose from 3 head choices when building your miniatures. The prices are a bit higher than Reaper and Superfigs but the quality is there and the versatility is a bonus.

Superfigs: Very large collection of Super hero and villain figures tipping over 150+ figures to choose from including vehicles and henchmen.

Reaper Miniatures: Great prices for them can be found at Miniature Giant and they offer a good selection of Super Hero/Villains as well as other figures that fit into the genre nicely.

Black Hat Miniatures: Has a small line of super hero models for sale at very good prices most just a 1-2 British Pounds. The selection is small but for the price it will not dent the budget much if you want them all.

I just ordered a few figures from Reaper a few days ago, picking up two flyers (Raptor and Harpy), Zenith (speedster), Sandwoman, Blood Widow and Blubbery Rand (the stretch guy). I just picked a few at random that I thought would be cool and fun to paint, I would worry about teams and such at a later date.

Well, I am off for now! Lots of things to do!

A great contest if you are into Flames of War.

A great blog that is giving away some cool stuff including FOW minis and offers to paint stuff for free! Can't beat that!

Figure I may go for the tanks for the fun of it and perhaps give FOW another try with the new rules. Looks like FOW gaming in my area is picking up slightly.

Iron Ivan Invades!

Well,  I got my Iron Ivan books in the mail this weekend! Now I have Point Blank and Angriff! to go with my core rules of Disposable Heroes. I was talking to my friends this weekend and we are looking forward to sitting down within the next month and playing a few games. Already we are working on basing our figures and cleaning with painting just around the bend.

I just managed to finish basing most of my Fallschirmjager with a few leftovers set off to the side like some extra snipers and radio men (the packs I bought had 3 snipers/spotters and the radio set had 4 radio men in it, just need one it seems). Add in the Panzer M, the G that is in the mail plus the two Kubelwagons and a Truck I am sitting pretty good. What I am lacking is about a dozen  M-40s and 4 more light machine gunes to round out the list. When it is all said and done I should have a command squad, 4 full squads and able to fill up any of my support including two PAK 40s, Mortar Team, Panzerfaust Teams and a Sniper unit. Not bad...looking forward to matching to war!
